Manchester United Secure Matheus Cunha in First Summer Signing Under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking Ruben Amorim’s first acquisition as the club’s new manager.

Cunha Chooses United Amid Premier League Interest

The 24-year-old striker enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, netting 17 goals and providing six assists across all competitions for Wolves. His impressive form attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, including Arsenal and Aston Villa, but Cunha has opted to join United’s rebuild under Amorim.

Reports suggest the Brazilian was spotted in Manchester over the weekend to finalize his medical before putting pen to paper. United announced the deal on their official website, stating:

Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.

A Much-Needed Boost for United’s Attack

United’s struggles in front of goal last season were evident they scored fewer goals than Everton and all three relegated sides (Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton). Captain Bruno Fernandes led the scoring charts with 19 goals, while Rasmus Hojlund was the only recognized striker to reach double figures.

Amorim, who took charge after a turbulent season, has prioritized attacking reinforcements. With no European football next term, the Portuguese boss believes he can focus on improving the squad’s domestic performance.

Amorim’s Promise: "The Good Days Are Coming"

After a dismal 15th-place finish, Amorim apologized to fans but vowed a brighter future, saying:

The good days are coming."

Cunha’s arrival signals the start of a squad overhaul, with several players expected to depart. The Brazilian, who joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2023 for £34m, brings Premier League experience, having contributed 42 goals and assists in the competition.

What’s Next for United?

With Cunha secured, attention now turns to further reinforcements as Amorim looks to reshape the squad. Will this signing ignite United’s revival? Only time will tell.
